PFCC and ENEOS Collaborate on Accelerating AI-Driven Discovery and Optimization of Lubricants and Immersion Cooling Fluids using NVIDIA Software
Preferred Computational Chemistry, Inc. (President and CEO: Daisuke Okanohara, hereinafter referred to as PFCC) announced a collaboration with ENEOS Corporation (President and CEO: Atsushi Yamaguchi, hereinafter referred to as ENEOS) to accelerate the discovery and optimization of new materials, including chemicals, using AI powered by NVIDIA ALCHEMI software. This collaboration was announced at NVIDIA GTC on March 18, 2025 (local time in California, USA).
The collaboration aims to enhance industrial performance and sustainability with a focus on high-impact research and development use, such as lubricants and immersion cooling fluids that support energy-efficient cooling of data centers. A cornerstone of this approach is leveraging PFCC’s Matlantis™ universal atomistic simulator that facilitates AI-enabled simulations of new chemicals and materials, providing insights and advancements in innovation. Computational workloads will be run on NVIDIA accelerated computing to take advantage of best-in-class hardware and software. In addition, NVIDIA ALCHEMI software and tools will be used to accelerate chemistry-specific computational workloads. The deployment of AI solutions will be guided by ENEOS’s substantial domain expertise in chemicals and materials for ensuring that relevant AI techniques are deployed to discover materials that meet target properties.
The collaboration will initially focus on lubricants and immersion cooling fluids for data centers, and will also aim to drive innovation efficiency and faster time-to-market for new products including additional high-impact materials such as catalysts and polymers.
Wear-resistant lubricants and coolants for data centers and thermal management are becoming increasingly critical to maintain operational performance and cost effectiveness in modern datacenters. Advancements in AI can accelerate materials discovery and foster innovation.
About Immersion Coolant
Immersion cooling directly cools all server components by immersing them in a non-conductive, single-phase cooling liquid. Compared to traditional air cooling, it can significantly improve energy efficiency, improve processor performance, and create quieter data centers. ENEOS markets its single-phase immersion cooling liquid as the ENEOS IX series, which complies with environmental regulations and provides best-in-class cooling and long life performance.
